This is my third year working with Worm Farm Recordings, providing the sound system behind the musicians performing at the Ypsilanti Songwriting Festival. The annual festival now in it’s third year as of 2009, provides a motivating resource for any musician, songwriter, or music enthusiast, with informative interviews with the featured artists.

This year, Martin Bandyke interviewed Paul Burch and Jason Ringenberg (Farmer Jason and Jason & The Nashville Scorchers). Jason told us about his childhood on his father’s farm, his days performing with the Scorchers, his influences, his path to a successful career as a musician and performed three of his favorite songs including an outstanding and heartfelt song by Ann Arbor’s own; Jim Roll called “Eddie Rode the Orphan Train”.
Paul discussed the process of recording his new release “Still Your Man”. Paul built his own studio in an old garage in Nashville to recreate the environment he prefers and to learn the recording process. Paul prefers to record to analog tape for it’s familiarity and simplicity as opposed to digital format which distracts from the music and is more time consuming.

Great performances by local musicians at the library included: Matt Jones, Holly Mae, Tracy Kash Thomas, Almus Magnus, Sean Rogers and Jay Lapp. The Festival moved to the Corner Brew and finished with a bang with performances by Colin Gilmore, Jason Ringenberg and Paul Burch.
